About the Role
This role is to commence in Spring / Summer 2026. You will be provided with ‘on the job’ training and all your work will initially be closely supervised. Key aspects of this role include:
- To act as a trainee accountant in the firm, working with a wide range of clients.
- Carry out all accounting work, such as preparing management accounts, VAT returns and year-end financial statements.
- Participate in audits and learn how to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Process transactions on a wide range of accounting software.
- Provide general accounting services and assistance to clients in the preparation of accounts.
- Keep Seniors, Managers and Partners informed of the progress of your work.
- Budget for your time and keep costs within budget wherever possible.
- Engage in continuous learning activities, workshops, and seminars to enhance your accounting knowledge and skills.

No prior accountancy experience is necessary, but a desire to thrive in a fast-paced, hard-working environment is a must as well as:
- A 2:2 degree or higher (for Graduate Trainee positions)
- An equivalent of 120 UCAS Tariff points from your top 3 A-levels.
- A minimum of Level 6 in GCSE Maths and English Language.
- The right to work in the UK without restrictions for the duration of the training contract

Full internal and external training will be provided. As well as Anderson Barrowcliff’s own internal training pathway to develop your professional skills. College leavers have an opportunity to study towards the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications over 30 months under an apprenticeship to build their technical skills, whilst graduate trainees may be considered for the professional qualifications pathway.
Continued professional development is encouraged and supported with possible career progression via either Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ACA) qualification after completion of the AAT. Training consists of a combination of courses (either online or at Kaplan in Newcastle), private study and regular exams, as well as on-the-job training. Paid study leave will be factored into your calendar to help support you in your studies and exams. All exam fees and studies are paid for by Anderson Barrowcliff.
In return for your efforts, knowledge, and abilities as a college leaver, we are offering you a salary of between £15,000 and £20,000 and graduates from £23,000.
